The most popular for home keeping are yellow-winged, yellow-headed and white-headed Amazons. They are believed to be much less of a hassle and are easy to tame. The color of the Amazons is dominated by green. But on the neck and wings there may be spots of another color. In the wild, birds most often feed on fruits, nuts and leaves. Often there are about three hundred of these parrots in a flock.

It is known that Amazonian parrots began to be tamed back in the 15th century.

Amazons are friendly and very quickly attached to people. At home, you can keep males or females. By the way, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish them from each other. Even Amazon specialists do not always distinguish between the sex of these parrots.

If you decide to purchase such a decorative bird, you will have to prepare a large cage with a height and width of at least 1 meter. In the absence of an opportunity to release the Amazon daily for a walk around the room, you will have to make an aviary. The cage must be equipped with a drinker, a feeder, and perches. It is advisable to place in it or the aviary all kinds of ladders, toys, bells and swings, which parrots usually love to gnaw. A dedicated bathing area should also be made, as the Amazons enjoy splashing around in warm water.

This breed of parrots is unpretentious. Birds get used to their new home very quickly. Only in the first week of appearance in the house, feathered pets can behave somewhat wary due to unfamiliar surroundings.

As for the diet, in a home environment, it must necessarily include a mixture of oat, millet, sunflower, canary and wheat seeds. It is recommended to regularly add nuts to the Amazon feed. Also, the menu should include fruits (pears, apples, grapes, oranges) and vegetables (carrots and beets). In the spring and summer months, you can break off small tree branches along with leaves and buds, and then place them in the cage. Amazon will not only enjoy the greens with pleasure, but will also grind its beak on the bark. It will not hurt to fix a mineral stone in the cage so that your pet can receive the necessary trace elements in a timely manner. You can periodically give your parrot a boiled egg or cheese. Clean drinking water should always be readily available.

On hot days, birds can be sprayed with a spray bottle.

Of course, the Amazons need attention from their master. Such parrots are very anxious if they are locked in a cage for the whole day and do not pay any attention to them. They may even begin to pluck their plumage slightly out of resentment.

These exotic birds are accustomed to waking up early and can disturb their owners with their loud morning calls. Also, the Amazons have very dramatic mood changes. They become especially aggressive at the age of 5-8 years during the period of hormonal maturation. If you have a desire to breed South American parrots, you will need to make an additional nesting box in the aviary.
