This is necessary in order to be able to scare the cat at the right moment - to spray it with cold water from a spray bottle and rattle the keys. The animal will be frightened and will be forced to interrupt its exciting activity.
The disadvantage of this method is its disposability: for the first time the cat will get scared and run away, but the next time it will wait for the right moment when the owner will not be around, and will start sharpening its claws again. That is why it is necessary to immediately resort to the most serious methods, for example, to purchase a so-called scratching post for your pet - a special device covered with soft material and allowing cats to sharpen their claws.
Scratching posts are sold at specialized pet stores. You can also make this simple device yourself. To do this, you will need a pipe or board, which will need to be wrapped with any strong fabric (carpet, denim, burlap). The fabric must be reinforced with nails at the ends of the base of the timber or with glue. It is reasonable to believe that the scratching post is installed in the place where the cat is especially vandalized. There is another way to make a feline "trainer". To do this, a piece of unnecessary carpet or other fabric is nailed directly to the wall. The fabric does not need to be nailed, but simply hung on the doorknob or on any other convenient place.
Perhaps the most common way to wean a cat from tearing up wallpaper is by trimming its claws. The difficulty is that experts do not recommend doing this.
