A cage is a necessary element that must be present in an apartment when keeping a bird. Firstly, it is guaranteed safety, and secondly, comfort for the bird itself. That is why it is important to train the bird to sit in the cage.
Where to begin?
After you have brought the bird home, allow it to recover and get used to its surroundings. Firstly, you do not need to immediately grab the animal with your hands and put it outside the cage door.
Secondly, be prepared for the first month you will need to tame the bird. Do everything gradually, letting the bird get used to your hands: apply food, change the water. Most likely, your hands will undergo a hefty attack, which must be bravely endured in order to show the bird that there is no point in pecking.
When the bird stops attacking or huddling in a corner, try hand-feeding it. After that, you can proceed to an important stage: teach the bird to sit on your finger.
To do this, bring your finger to the paws of the animal and hold it for some time, repeating this procedure as often as possible. When the bird understands what is required of it and does it, you can prepare for the first flight around the apartment.
Bird flight is an integral part of a healthy life. If the bird is deprived of physical activity, then very soon its body will undergo obesity.
Favorable conditions
The outcome of the first free flight is unpredictable. The bird can begin to rush around all corners of the room, or it can get scared and immediately return to the cage. It is necessary to prepare the room in advance to protect the animal.
Close all windows and close the curtains so that the bright light does not confuse the bird. Remove sharp objects and other pets (if any) from the room.
Flight
Place the bird on your finger and remove your hand from the cage. Most likely, the animal, feeling freedom, will immediately flap its wings and fly. The first flight does not last very long, especially if you have a chick. In just a minute or two, you will need to show the bird its house.
First of all, birds can be attracted by food. If the animal sees you pouring grains into the feeder, then most likely it will immediately be near the cage.
Subdued light around and bright lighting above the cage will distinguish the house from the interior, which means that the bird will sooner find it.
Daily “bird walks” around the apartment should last at least 15 minutes.
If the bird cannot return to the cage on its own, try chasing it off the objects on which it sits. Just do not overdo it, so as not to tire the already frightened bird.
Repeat the procedure daily until the animal is used to returning to the cage. Subsequently, do not leave the cage open when you are not at home, otherwise the bird may be injured.
