Pets, due to various circumstances, often travel with their owner on public transport, including an airplane. To transport a dog on an airplane, you need to know and follow some rules.
Required information
If you are going to fly by plane in the company of your dog, you should warn the dispatcher about the carriage of the animal when booking or directly when buying a ticket. The main thing is that this happens 36 hours before the start of the desired flight.
Transportation of a dog in the cabin of an Airbus is possible only with the approval of the airline and meeting the following requirements:
- compulsory accompaniment of a pet by an adult passenger;
- the weight of the dog with the shipping container (together) does not exceed 8 kg;
- the pet must be placed in a cage or a special container. The dimensions of the container for a four-legged friend should not be more than 115 cm (length, height, carrying width in total).
Passengers who have live "luggage" in the form of pets, as a rule, are accommodated in remote places of the aircraft: near emergency exits, toilets. When transporting your pet on the plane, be sure to add a veterinary first aid kit to your luggage. Anything can happen to a pet at a height, especially if it travels in this way for the first time.
Dog like luggage
When the entry qualification (8 kg) into the cabin is exceeded, then your dog will have to take off in the air in the cargo hold. With this option, the size of the cage (or container) is selected in such a way as to allow the dog to both freely rise to its full height and freely turn in it. The bottom of the cage must be covered with an absorbent material. It must be waterproof.
You should be extremely careful to check the correctness of paperwork for the dog. The only correct one is the encoding AVIH (reads "animal in the hold"), and not the inscription SPEQ (reads "non-standard cargo") with the addition of DOG. The computer system does not accept comments in documents. And in airplanes, the distribution of goods in the luggage compartment is carried out by the automatic system precisely by coding.
A dog is loaded into an airbus according to special standards, in a separate compartment and on certain pallets, with a distance set from each other, etc. If the coding is incorrect, the owner of a four-legged friend may have problems loading baggage.
Payment for the "flight" of a pet
Unfortunately, the weight of the dog and the container for its transportation is not taken into account according to the standard of free transportation of personal cargo. Payment for four-legged pets is always based on the excess baggage rate. The free flight is provided only to service animals that provide company and support to their owners during the flight.
Required documents for transporting a dog
To transport a dog on an airplane, the owner must have a veterinary passport for the animal. It should contain the following information:
- marks about the necessary vaccinations;
- Chipping certificate;
- information on treatment against fleas and worms.
Vaccinations must be done at least 30 days and no more than 12 months before the flight. 3 days before departure, you need to obtain a veterinary certificate No. 1-vet from the GosVetStation. It is issued on the basis of the dog's veterinary passport.
