To determine if your puppy's nails should be trimmed, place the puppy on a flat floor and see if they touch the ground - if so, trim them. If, when walking on hard surfaces, you hear a knock, then it's time to grab the scissors, or rather, special devices - nail clippers, reminiscent of a guillotine. Purchase such a tool from a veterinary store.
Step 2
Puppies do not like the procedure of cutting nails, but it is necessary to accustom to it from the very childhood, carrying it out regularly. At this time, praise your pet, talk to him affectionately and comfort him. Treat your dog with care, but if you see that she is very nervous, reschedule the haircut the next day. Better to choose a time when the puppy is tired and wants to sleep.
Step 3
For the first time, it is advisable to contact the veterinarian or dog hairdresser, especially if the pet has black nails - it may be difficult for you to know where to cut, and you will injure the dog. The sensitive part is clearly visible on the white claw, it is pink. Ask them to show you how to use the nail clipper correctly. Once you get the hang of it, you can trim your puppy's nails yourself.

Perform the procedure in a well-lit place, ask someone to shine a flashlight on the claws. When choosing a place to cut, look at the underside of the finger - there the living tissue is more noticeable. Trim gradually while observing the dog's reaction. When you notice a dark spot in the center of the claw, it means that blood vessels and nerve endings are close. After trimming, you can proceed to the next claw, or you can process it with a nail file.

If you do touch a sensitive area and bleeding, take an absorbent pad and press it on the cut end for a few minutes. Treat the wound with hydrogen peroxide or use a special styptic pencil. After trimming, give the puppy a treat so that he will not be afraid of this procedure next time.
