Collie is a medium-sized dog, but possesses a certain strength and grace, even aristocracy. Modern collies are excellent shepherds and companions, perfectly adapted both to the countryside and to urban life next to humans. First of all, a collie is a faithful friend of its owner, his companion and assistant. In order to choose a collie puppy, you need to know the features of the standard of this dog breed.
Instructions
Step 1
Before buying a puppy, be sure to inquire about collie breeders. Chat with them, visit cynological exhibitions, look at their pets, pay attention to the conditions of keeping animals.
Step 2
When choosing between male and female, trust your personal preference. If you are not planning to breed puppies of this breed, take a dog. Males are more representative and independent. Collie girls are more agreeable, affectionate, it is easier to teach them different commands.
Step 3
It is best to take a collie puppy to the family at the age of 8-12 weeks. This is the period of social adaptation, when the formation of the baby's character takes place. Collie puppies at this age have already been weaned from their mother and are able to independently eat the main types of food: meat, cereals and dairy products.
Step 4
Pay special attention to the mother of the puppies. She should be well-groomed, active and cheerful, by no means exhausted. Remember that only a strong animal can give birth to healthy offspring.
Step 5
There are only 3 varieties of collie color: tricolor (black with tan and white markings), red (light golden to sable) and marble blue. The presence of white markings on the paws and collar is desirable for any type of collie color, they make dogs of this breed more attractive.
Step 6
Collie puppy should be active, playful, rather well-fed. He should not have either internal parasites (worms) or skin (lice, fleas, lice). If you contact the kennel or the breeder, the puppy at the time of sale must be branded in accordance with the provisions of the RKF, and a puppy card is issued for it, which can later be exchanged for the dog's pedigree.
Step 7
The coat of the Little Collie should be thick and the eyes, ears and nose should be clean. The true color of a collie puppy's eyes can only be determined at 7-8 weeks of age. In dogs of any color, the eyes should be dark. The only exception is the marbled blue-eyed collie.
Step 8
Take a good look at the dog you like. The collie puppy should have strong and straight limbs, a long, beautiful neck, an even back, and the tail should fall below the hock. A good dog is also distinguished by a developed lower jaw, a scissor bite, obliquely located non-convex and non-circular eyes.
