A pedigree is a document that certifies the origin of a cat and its breed. If you have purchased a pedigree kitten and plan to participate in exhibitions with him, registration of the pedigree is mandatory. How to do it?
Instructions
Step 1
If you buy a kitten in the cattery, make sure that a document is entered on it - a metric, which contains information about the breed, parents and date of birth. The pedigree is issued only on its basis.
Step 2
After six months, contact the club where the mother cat is. The kitten will be registered and if it meets all breed standards, a pedigree will be entered on it. Usually, this document contains the following data: the logo of the club and its name, the address and contact numbers of the club, the pedigree number and information about the animal itself: date of birth, nickname, breed, color and sex. In the complete pedigree, data on the mother and her ancestors up to the third generation are indicated, their achievements and titles are entered. It is also mandatory to enter information about the father and his origin, as well as the date of issue of the pedigree. Such a document gives the right to participate in exhibitions and breeding. Ancestor data is collected from club registration books.
Step 3
If you are sure that the kitten is purebred and you want to start a pedigree on it, but you do not know anything about its origin, you can bring the animal for examination. If the expert establishes that all characteristics (color, bite, etc.) correspond to the breed norms, then the cat will receive a pedigree, however, in the column โparentsโ there will be an inscription: โOrigin unknownโ. In this case, the cat can become the ancestor of its own line. Such animals are allowed for experimental breeding.
Step 4
Start drawing up a pedigree when the animal has not yet reached the age of one year. After that, it will be more difficult to make the necessary documents. When registering a pedigree, you may also be required to have a veterinary passport, which can be done at any state veterinary clinic.
Step 5
Even if you are not going to take part in exhibitions, be sure to ask for documents when buying a kitten. Your plans may change, but if time is lost, your pet will forever be left without prizes and medals.
