Moving, vacation, exhibition. A cat on a train - luggage or a passenger? To avoid problems with guides, if you are carrying an animal with you, follow the rules for transporting animals on the railroad.
Instructions
Step 1
It is necessary to take care of the legal transportation of the cat at least one month before departure. This is due to quarantine: the animal cannot be taken out earlier than a month after the rabies vaccination. Contact your local government veterinary clinic (animal disease control station). The rabies vaccine is free of charge, but find out in advance if such vaccinations are carried out in your city only on certain days. Take a certificate stating that the vaccination was given. If your cat has a veterinary passport, then a mark about rabies vaccination is made on the page designated for this.
Step 2
A day or two before departure, purchase a certificate for transporting an animal at the regional state clinic. It contains data on the type (cat), number (for several cats, you can take one certificate) and age of the animals, as well as a note that the animals have been quarantined "in their habitat". The certificate is valid for three days or until the moment of arrival at the destination (it is also indicated in the certificate), if the journey takes more than three days. At the exhibition you will need the same certificate and veterinary passport.
Step 3
The rules of the Russian railways provide for the transport of small animals in reserved seat cars, in carrying cages as carry-on luggage. For a cat, you will have to purchase a baggage ticket (as for 20 kg of luggage). The handler will check your tickets and veterinary certificate.
Step 4
On a long journey, stock up on food, a tray, wet wipes, boiled water, and small, stable food and water bowls. If you spend less than a day on the road, it is better for the cat to starve. Do not let your cat go on the train, much less leave it unattended. Even in a compartment, a cat can escape through the vents. It is best to put a harness on the cat in advance and take a leash with you with a simple and sturdy carabiner.
