Step 1
When building a pigsty, you can use almost any material that is probably in abundance in any household. It can be bricks, planks, or logs. But it is advisable in this case not to use such concrete, since it is a rather cold building material. Otherwise, pigs may suffer from the cold in cold weather, and this can adversely affect growth.
Step 2
The inner space must be divided to house small groups of pigs. For this, make fences from boards and fence off a place for a pig with piglets, there should be a separate place for a hog. Since pigs are very pugnacious animals, it is advisable to keep them separately in order to avoid fights, this can lead to the death of piglets.
Step 3
Pay particular attention to building the floor in the pigsty. Make it from compacted rubble on hydraulic cement or from bricks laid in the form of a Christmas tree with an edge and filled with cement mortar. A floor made of reeds and soil will very quickly become saturated with urine, therefore it is unhygienic, as well as a slatted wooden floor. Rats often breed in such a floor and it is difficult to clean manure from it. It is advisable to make the floor with a slight slope so that urine can drain into the gutters that run along the pigsty.
Step 4
In the pigsty, be sure to make windows and a ventilation pipe. Doors should open outward, this is necessary in order to avoid drafts. When building a pigsty, provide for a walk - this is a dry and clean yard for walking pigs. You can put a bathtub or trough in it for bathing animals. Don't forget to make a device that pigs might scratch on.
Step 5
Small pigs have no fatty layer, and if there is no warm place, they will freeze and may develop pulmonary diseases. Therefore, take care of the optimal temperature, it should be 28-30 degrees, if the piglets are more than one month old - 18-20 degrees. Organize local heating, for this use wooden boxes (80x50x50) with a manhole, hang an electric lamp above the box, the power of which should be 150-200 watts. Adjust the temperature by the height of its location.
