Your pet parrots can feel great in a spacious equipped cage. However, if the couple decided to have offspring, you need to take care of a cozy nesting place. It is necessary to make a nesting house for parrots taking into account some of the rules adopted by poultry farmers. The easiest way is to make it in the form of a box with a removable lid.
It is necessary
- Boards 1, 5-2, 5 cm thick or plywood sheets
- Plane
- Saw
- A hammer
- Nails
- Wood screws
- Screwdriver
- Chisel
- Perch
- Drill
- Roof-door hinges
- Birch sawdust
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare boards 1, 5-2, 5 cm in thickness or sheets of thick plywood. Align the workpieces with the plane only from the outside. Form a wooden bottom of the nest and make (with the help of a chisel) a small hole about 5 cm in diameter in the middle. This is the future tray for the testicles. If you are preparing a house for lovebird parrots, then you do not need to make indentations. Prepare hay and small branches for them - they themselves will weave a nest for themselves at the bottom of the box.
Step 2
Secure the boards with nails or screws. Choose the size of the finished nesting house according to the type of parrots. Usually, for the smallest (lovebirds, budgerigars), a box of 20 cm in height is enough, with a bottom area of 15x15. Make a round entrance to the house (entrance) with a diameter of about 5-7 cm. Accordingly, for large birds (cockatoo, arars), increase the size of the house (height - 120, bottom - 90x90, size of the entrance - 20).
Step 3
Install a perch with which the male will feed the female and chicks. Outside, it should be about 10-15 cm (depending on the size of the parrot), and inside, it should go through the entire booth or enter it only a few centimeters. The female should be comfortable to stand on it and jump down so as not to damage the eggs.
Step 4
Drill small holes in 2-3 rows along the bottom of the box so that air flows into the parrot house. Then you place a bowl of water under it. Through these holes, water vapor will flow to the little parrots, humidifying the air. This will need to be done in hot weather to prevent the chicks from dying. Pour dry birch sawdust into the bottom of the box with a layer of about 2 cm.
Step 5
Make sure to remove the lid of the parrot house so that it will be easier for you to get into the nest and keep an eye on the chicks. Make a flat or pitched cover and install it on the drawer with hinges and screws.
