However, many amateur breeders are faced with the fact that the chinchilla is afraid of its new owners and does not want to get used to jumping into their arms or even getting close. How do you tame this little furry?

Step 1
Give your chinchilla time to settle into a new home. Chinchilla, like any rodent, does not really like loud sounds and increased attention to its own person. Of course, these animals lend themselves to domestication, but it takes some time and patience. Do not demand from your chinchilla to instantly jump into your arms and communicate with all guests and family members. If the animal is brought from the apartment of a large breeder, most likely, he is not used to constant attention and persistent caresses. Give the chinchilla time to get comfortable in your new home and, if possible, do not bother her with your presence. In a few days, when the animal feels safe again, he himself will be interested in what is outside the cage. This is where taming can begin.
Step 2
Treat your baby to something tasty. A raisin or a piece of apple is ideal for taming. Start simple - open the cage and place the treat next to the chinchilla's house. After the animal stops being afraid and starts to leave the shelter, you can complicate the task and start giving him raisins through the cage grate. Slip the treat between the bars and wait for the chinchilla to take it from you and from your hands. Gradually upgrade the exercises, making sure that the animal is not afraid of your hands and learns to take food from them.
Step 3
Some chinchillas are very susceptible to petting and stroking, but only a few. Most of these rodents live quietly and without your scratching, absolutely not experiencing the need for them. If you want to stroke the animal, keep in mind that he himself is unlikely to get pleasure from this process. Your task is to teach the chinchilla not to be afraid of your hands and constant touching, then it will willingly jump into your palms, take food from them and will not run away when trying to touch it.
