The smallest terrier in the world is the Russian Toy Terrier. This small lap dog has now overtaken such decorative breeds as the Chihuahua and the Miniature Spitz in popularity.
Appearance
Toy Terrier is a very gentle decorative dog. His height is 20-26 centimeters, and his weight is 1, 3-2, 7 kilograms. It has long legs and a small, rounded muzzle. A peculiarity of the dog is its large, slightly protruding eyes, they give the toy terrier a meaningful, attractive expression of the muzzle. The life span of a dog is 10-15 years.
Body type
The first thing that attracts attention when meeting a toy terrier is its tiny size. But unlike the Chihuahua, the Toy Terrier looks taller and more graceful, many even compare it with a fawn.
Like most terriers, the proportions of a toy terrier can be inscribed in a square. Ideally, the length of the body should be equal to the height of the withers. This physique allows the dog to run and jump tirelessly.
Differences in the appearance of the sexes in the Toy Terrier are weak. Both boys and girls are about the same height and weight. This uniformity is due to practicality. It is difficult for a female toy terrier to bear and give birth to puppies from a larger male, so the dog is knitted with a smaller male.
Despite its small stature, the Russian Toy Terrier is a very agile dog. Moves mainly at a wide trot. Amble is not typical for this breed.
Toy Terrier coat and color
Toy terriers are smooth-haired and long-haired. In smooth-haired dogs, the coat is short, shiny, close to the body. Long-haired toy terriers have long hair on their ears, sometimes reaching 16 centimeters or more. The coat on the body is also slightly longer than that of smooth-haired terriers.
Any red monochromatic shades and variations of tan color are acceptable for the breed. Solid black and white coat is a disadvantage.
The character of the toy terrier
The character of the Toy Terrier is energetic and friendly. He can easily make friends with dogs and other animals. Toy Terrier is ready to accompany its owner everywhere. Usually it is carried by hand or in a basket. Due to its size, this dog can be easily transported on public transport.
On a walk, a toy terrier should not shake with fear at the sight of cars and other dogs, and should not show aggression towards others. This behavior may be due to the isolation of the dog. Although the Toy Terrier breed is called room, but for the normal formation of the psyche, the dog needs communication with the outside world.
Like any dog of any other breed, the Toy Terrier must be trained. You can't let him growl and bark at other people and pets, sleep on your pillow, and jump onto your lap at any time. Ignoring parenting can cause your toy terrier to develop Napoleon's syndrome. The little dog will consider himself the main one and impose his desires on the household.
