The first hours after surgery
After sterilization surgery, the cat needs proper care and attention from the owner. The procedure is carried out under deep anesthesia; the cat will move away from it within a few hours. It is best to leave your pet for a day in a veterinary clinic, where it will be under the proper supervision of qualified doctors. The duration of the rehabilitation period depends on the state of health.
The first step is to provide your beloved pet with peace and quiet. It should be transported from the clinic in a carrier. An absorbent diaper should be placed on the bottom, and a blanket should be placed over the cat, as the body temperature decreases after the operation. At home, the cat should be allocated the quietest and most peaceful corner on the floor, away from heating appliances and drafts. Do not place the animal on a bed or a hill, as after anesthesia, coordination is impaired, and the cat may fall. A soft bedding and a warm blanket are the first things you need after sterilization.
Postoperative care is easy, the most important thing is not to leave the cat unattended. She can get out of anesthesia in 5-7 hours, the time depends on the dosage and on individual characteristics. In the first hours, the cat will look strange: a slowed down gaze, a wobbly gait, lethargy and drowsiness. This is the norm. After waking up, you should drink it from a pipette to moisten the mucous membranes. Do not pour water into the mouth, the cat may choke. When the first symptoms have subsided and the cat is able to hold its head well, it can be fed with liquid food. Should not be forced. Food should be digestible to avoid constipation. This can lead to divergence of the seams.
Seam care
The suture heals pretty quickly. On the 3rd day it is delayed, on the 10th day the veterinarian is already removing the suture. If self-absorbable threads were used, then they do not need to be removed at all. Some pets show interest in the wound, lick it, and comb it. Saliva contains a large number of microbes, so licking the seam is unacceptable. For these purposes, you should purchase a blanket. It is best to buy two at once, put one on the cat, and use the other as a change. If the cat is still trying to lick the seam, then a special collar will come in handy, which will serve as an obstacle. The stitches should be treated with special antiseptic ointments, which the doctor will prescribe.
Feeding after sterilization
15 days after the operation, the cat joins its usual life, it can be fed as before with a balanced and light food. After sterilization, animals spend less energy, so you need to carefully monitor their diet in order to maintain their figure. Excess weight leads to various diseases. Fatty, salty, smoked foods, as well as large quantities of baked goods should be excluded.
