Keeping aquarium fish is a very exciting activity, a source of pleasure and interesting observations. There are many types of fish, but unpretentious pets such as guppies and telescopes are best suited for novice aquarists.
Guppies are viviparous freshwater fish. Their size varies from 1, 5 to 7 cm, females are larger than males. Males are brighter in color, but females have luxurious tails. Most often, they stay in the middle layer of water, not hiding either under stones or among plants. The fish are constantly moving, as if "dancing" in the water, it is very interesting to watch them.
Guppies need water with a medium salt content, and the most suitable temperature is 24 degrees. If the water temperature briefly drops to 15 degrees or rises to 30 degrees, the fish can withstand this, but it is better to avoid such fluctuations. The aquarium needs a spacious one, at least 10 liters for one pair of adult fish.
Guppies are prone to obesity, it is better to underfeed them than overfeed.
Any dry food is suitable for adult guppies. They also need live food: filamentous algae, cyclops, daphnia, tubifex. Adult fish need to be fed once a day, newborns - 3 times, and from sex determination to 4-6 months - twice. Leftover food must be removed from the aquarium.
A pregnant female guppy can be easily distinguished by an enlarged abdomen and a black speck near the anus. If the abdomen has taken a square shape, then spawning is approaching. The female must be deposited in a separate three-liter jar, at the bottom of which is laid Elodea, crushed by a stone. Females can devour their offspring to prevent this from happening, you need to build thickets of Thai fern and Java moss, where the fry can hide. Until two weeks of age, all feed for fry must be pulverized.
The maintenance of the telescopes is not distinguished by the complexity. This artificially bred goldfish breed gets its name from its large, bulging eyes. The color of the fish ranges from orange to black.
The volume of the aquarium for telescopes is determined at the rate of 7-10 liters per individual. Coarse sand or river pebbles are suitable as soil. Sharp stones should not be so that the fish do not damage their eyes. Telescopes love to dig in the ground, so the root system of plants must be powerful.
Telescopes do not tolerate water turbidity well, they can die even from the bloom of green algae, so filtration and aeration must be constant.
Keeping guppies and telescopes in the same aquarium is not recommended, because these fish require different conditions.
The hardness of the water is not of particular importance for these fish, and its temperature should be 26-27 degrees. The water needs to be changed partially - 25% of the volume - every 5-6 days.
Telescopes are almost omnivorous, but prone to overeating, you cannot overfeed them. For example, for six fish, 3 teaspoons of bloodworms are sufficient. They need to be fed once a day in the warm season, and twice in winter. Once a week, it is necessary to arrange a "fasting day" for the fish, without giving any food at all.
Telescopes breed in March and April. In the spawning ground, the volume of which should be at least 50 liters, one female and 2-3 males are planted. For 2 weeks before spawning, males and females are kept separately and heavily fed, and on the last day they are not fed at all.
