Many have come across such a nuisance at least once - a beloved cat, or even a pet of friends to whom you came to visit, shamelessly marked your shoes. What to do? Can I wash my shoes and get rid of the smell, or do I have to throw my shoes away?
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, you need to thoroughly rinse your shoes. Ideally, any surface marked by the cat should be rinsed immediately. In hot pursuit, there are more chances to remove not only the smell, but also break down the uric acid crystals. Laundry soap, alcohol, vodka or glycerin will help you. Although in practice this is not always possible. As a rule, the owner discovers a surprise from the pet after a few hours.
Step 2
There are many folk remedies for this scourge. For example, odor freezing. The washed shoes are sent to the freezer or kept on the balcony all winter. This method is very doubtful, because the smell seems to disappear, but if suddenly you have to walk in these shoes all day or put them on in hot weather, the cat's "scents" will reappear. The fact is that even in washed shoes, the remains of urine crystallize, and with the next ingress of any moisture, the smell again makes itself felt.
Step 3
Do not use chlorine-based disinfectants. Firstly, they can cause allergies, and secondly, there is no guarantee that chlorine will remove an unpleasant odor and will not ruin the shoes. Much better for this purpose are hydrogen peroxide, iodine or potassium permanganate solution, which miraculously kill odors. You can use a vinegar solution or lemon juice.
Step 4
If the shoes are fabric, such as sneakers, then a few thorough washes can help out. But if a leather product is damaged, then be extremely careful with all of the above means. Otherwise, the appearance of the shoes will suffer so much that you still have to throw them away.
Step 5
Perhaps the best solution in this case is to buy a urine odor eliminator at a pet store. Rinse your shoes, wipe with this product and dry. You can also sprinkle it with antigadin, so that the cat will be discouraged in the future. Just do not pour antigadin without preliminary treatment - there will be no effect. And hide shoes and other things away from your pet.
