The impression of even the most beautiful and well-kept apartment can be spoiled by the unpleasant odor from the cat litter box. Even if the pet does not stain in the wrong places, his legal toilet can smell unbearably. It is good if there is an opportunity to let the cat go for a walk, but what if the pet does not leave the house? Fortunately, there is an opportunity to rectify the situation.
Instructions
Step 1
Smell occurs primarily when the litter box is untimely and carelessly cleaned. For the same reason, a cat can choose a corner in the living room or your favorite chair as a toilet. Sand and newspapers do not pay off, and it is better to spend regularly on litter for the tray than on air freshener and cleaning products. Try to find a different filler, for example, changing from wood to mineral. Clumping litters are very convenient - you only clean up dirty areas, the rest of the litter remains in the tray. Manufacturers now offer a large selection of both budgetary and expensive funds. Silica gel has proven itself very well. If you have a tray with a grate, you can put some water on the bottom. The main thing is not to be lazy to clean the toilet on time. Even if the packaging with the filler says that it can be changed once a week, try to do it more often.
Step 2
Treating the area around the tray or areas damaged by the cat with chemicals will help eliminate the smell. Simple washing with water will not help here, unfortunately. You can pick up odor neutralizers from an assortment of pet stores, or use home remedies. Solutions of manganese, vinegar, hydrogen peroxide help well. When using them, make sure that the surface you are applying them to is capable of withstanding the impact. Bleach, a favorite of many owners, and all the products based on it, oddly enough, can lead to the opposite effect - to increase the unpleasant odor or push the cat away from the litter box treated with bleach and make it look for another secluded place. According to some cat owners, cleaning the toilet and dirty places with a strong solution of baking soda or laundry soap helps.
Step 3
For masking and weakening the smell, natural essential oils of mint and tea tree are recommended. Remember that all cats do not tolerate the smell of citrus fruits - rub the surface with a lemon peel, and the pet, snorting, retreats.
