The ability to walk correctly on a leash, without pulling it on and keeping at the owner's feet, will always be useful for your dog and will ensure its safety on the streets of the city. You can start training almost immediately, before you start long walks outside your yard.

Step 1
First train your dog to the collar and then to the leash. In a specialized store, purchase a cloth or leather collar of a suitable size and a short leash of 2 m. The size of the collar should be such that it fits snugly around the dog's neck, but does not squeeze it. He should not sit high, just behind the ears, so that the puppy does not slip out of him. The collar will need to be changed a couple of times until your pet is fully grown up.
Step 2
Put the collar on the dog, usually it goes unnoticed, in extreme cases, attempts will be made to pull it off with his paws, but if the collar sits tightly, then the puppy will not succeed and there will be nothing left but to accept. Then attach a leash to the collar, let the dog just run around with it at home. Make sure she doesn't get tangled in the leash. Then follow the animal with the end of the leash in your hand. Then, using the treat as bait, let him know which direction you want to go. Guide him with a leash, encouraging with affection. After a few of these workouts, take your classes outside.
Step 3
Take a dog treat with you. Decide which side will be more convenient for you to drive the dog, usually it should go to your right. Go for a walk where you will not meet a lot of people in order to teach the dog to walk alongside without pulling on the leash.
Step 4
Take the leash in your hand, give the command "Near", start moving forward. If the dog tries to run in front of you or stop by holding the leash or with a slight jerk, bring the dog back to the leg. When she's been around for a while, don't forget to reward her with a treat. Usually, a few workouts are enough for dogs to fully master this exercise and understand what you need and that you should not pull on the leash. Increase the distance gradually by adjusting the length of the leash.
Step 5
Teach your dog to first move around you on a loose leash, then walk, changing direction, and reward him with a treat if he walks from the side where you want and next to you, without pulling the leash. Sometimes you will periodically have to remind your dog of discipline by pulling on the leash and using the command “by”, but if you are patient and persistent, you can quickly achieve success.
