If, after another walk, the dog began to itch, it may have been bitten by a subcutaneous tick. In order to avoid infection with infectious diseases, the sources of which are this insect, it is necessary to take measures to extract the uninvited guest.
It is necessary
- - alcohol;
- - gloves;
- - tweezers;
- - thread;
- - brilliant green;
- - iodine.
Instructions
Step 1
If you find a tick on your dog's body, take it to your veterinarian as soon as possible. It will remove the vector of infections much faster and safer than you. In addition, the veterinarian will treat the wound, determine if the tick has managed to infect the dog, and prescribe treatment. If the parasite has bitten your pet far from settlements, or you cannot go to the vet without wasting time, try to save the situation yourself.
Step 2
Be sure to put gloves on your hands or wrap them with paper towels, otherwise you yourself may contract encephalitis. If you have tweezers on hand, treat it and the wound itself with rubbing alcohol or cologne. Grab the body of the tick with tweezers as close to the animal's skin as possible. Try to slowly and very gently loosen the tick from side to side before starting to pull it out. Then, using a twisting motion, gently remove the insect.
Step 3
If tweezers are missing, find a thick thread. Wrap it around the tick at the base of the bite and pull at both ends, loosening the insect's body from side to side. Pull out the tick very slowly and carefully, because if you rip the insect, and the head and proboscis remain in the dog's body, the risk of infection will not decrease. Couldn't pull out the entire uninvited guest? Never push the insect with your fingers. In this situation, you cannot do without the help of a veterinarian.
Step 4
If the insect is completely removed, burn it immediately and then wash your hands with soap and water. Disinfect the pet bite with iodine or brilliant green. Take your dog to your veterinarian as soon as possible. It may happen that the animal has already contracted a dangerous disease. And alarming symptoms - weakness, high fever, vomiting - can appear even a week after the bite.
