Most aquarium books say that a container for keeping fish should hold about 80 liters of water. However, it is not always possible to install such a large structure at home. The way out in this situation can be the purchase of a mini-aquarium, because it does not take up much space and will allow you to enjoy your favorite business - breeding ornamental fish.
When choosing a mini aquarium, pay attention to one-piece containers. Details such as edging, seams, frames are quite appropriate, but still it is better to do without them. These elements will only emphasize the small size of your aquarium.
Decide on the material from which your mini aquarium will be made. For example, acrylic containers are easy enough to scratch, but just such aquariums often have an original bizarre shape. Plus, they're harder to break than mini glass ponds.
Place the mini aquarium in the safest place where it will be difficult to tip over. Also, make sure that there are no drafts where the container with fish is installed.
When buying an aquarium, you can choose an aquarium kit. These sets usually include lamps, pumps, cabinets, filters, cooling systems, and even salt and soil. It is usually cheaper to purchase a kit than buying each mini aquarium accessory separately.
The best option might be to buy a mini aquarium with built-in light, filtration and aeration systems. These models are available in volumes from 5 liters. Buying an aquarium with built-in systems will allow you to avoid buying additional equipment and save you from a bunch of bulky hoses, since all the devices built into the tank are miniature in size. Finding a separate miniature filter or a small aerator is very problematic.
If you decide to order the manufacture of a mini-aquarium in the workshop, then be sure to check the finished product for air bubbles, and also pay attention to the gluing points, which should not have any flaws.
Before making a purchase, think about how this or that form of aquarium will fit into your interior. For example, if the container has an elongated shape, then it is better to place it along the wall. It is best to design such an aquarium using leafy backgrounds, the theme of which should correspond to the contents of your mini-reservoir. Containers, the bottom of which is in the shape of a square or an isosceles triangle, can be placed in the center of the table. In this case, there is no need to design a background. Cubic mini-aquariums are especially convenient because they do not take up much space. In addition, this shape will perfectly fit into almost any interior.
Also, an important factor when choosing an aquarium is what kind of fish you plan to breed in it. For example, if you are dreaming of buying yellow zebras, which eventually grow up to 20 cm in length, then purchasing a mini-aquarium, in this case, is not a good idea. Therefore, before you go shopping, think carefully about which representatives of flora and fauna will inhabit your aquarium.
When purchasing a mini-aquarium, remember that it requires constant and careful maintenance, it should not be bought on the “let it be” principle. The main disadvantage of such mini-reservoirs is that the slightest problem that arises can turn into a disaster in a matter of hours. This is due to the small volume of water. Untimely cleaning or poor filtration can lead to the death of fish. If you are not ready to devote a lot of time to such an aquarium and its inhabitants, it is better to refuse to purchase.
