Udder edema can be observed with a violation of the porosity of the blood vessels and a slowed outflow of lymph in the tissues. In most cases, this condition is characteristic of cows before giving birth or in the first days after calving. Toxicosis during pregnancy, kidney or heart disease of an animal can provoke udder edema.

Instructions

Step 1

The main symptoms of udder edema in a cow include a painless increase in volume. In most cases, the body temperature is slightly below normal, its local increase, as a rule, is not observed. When pressed with fingertips, indentations remain on the skin of the udder for a long time. In this case, no deviations are found in the secret. Skin tension is pronounced, which increases the risk of damage. Severe swelling of the udder can provoke mastitis and complicate the milking process.

Step 2

Most often, minor edema disappears within 5-7 days after childbirth and does not require special treatment. If this process takes on a rather serious form, it is necessary to exclude (or at least reduce) from the cow's diet juicy feed, concentrates and table salt. It is necessary to feed her during this period with good quality hay. Water consumption should be limited. It is recommended to donate a cow up to 8 times a day.

Step 3

In case of stagnant edema of the udder, measures should be taken to prevent possible injury to the edematous tissues. A cow must not be allowed into a common herd with other animals. In this case, you should take walks with her for 1 hour 3-4 times a day.

Step 4

It is recommended to gently massage the udder from the bottom up. In this case, you should not use irritating ointments and liniment. They are contraindicated for edema. If the swelling occurs before delivery, the cow should be handed over several times a day.

Step 5

Therapy for udder edema should be aimed at restoring lymph and blood circulation, reducing interstitial pressure. These goals are achieved by frequent milking and massaging towards the base of the cow's udder. A sick animal can be injected intravenously with 100-150 ml of a 10% solution of calcium chloride or calcium gluconate. A cardiac preparation is injected subcutaneously - 10-20 ml of 20% caffeine benzoate. The swelling will resolve more quickly with hay poultices and warm wraps.

Step 6

If the udder is heavily sagging, it is recommended to tie it up with an over-udder or a supporting bandage. A good effect on edema is given by rubbing in the anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory ointment "Rigefen". In combination with general and local treatment, you can use laxatives of medium salts (magnesia, Karlovy Vary salt, castor oil), diuretic infusions or decoctions (from juniper berries, birch buds, horsetail), distracting rubbing in the region of the croup, limbs, chest.
