This breed of dog, although it is considered one of the most ancient, was still the rarest, as it was noted in the Guinness Book of Records in 1978. Today, dogs of this breed are no longer a rarity, although they still immediately attract attention with their exotic appearance - a plush wrinkled skin, black-purple tongue and a characteristic nose shape. This breed is called Shar Pei.
Instructions
Step 1
Breeding work on sharpei, most likely, began more than 3 thousand years ago, which is confirmed by genetic analyzes. They were bred in China, and are relatives of the Chow Chow and the ancient mastiffs. Judging by the anatomical features of the physique: a powerful body and well-developed jaws, short hair and folded skin, which can be bitten through, but not injured, the Shar Pei were originally intended for fighting. But gradually they transformed from a fighting breed of dogs into hunters and watchmen, where their natural qualities also became very popular. These strong and intelligent dogs, who do not know how to bark, can easily cope with large prey and protect the owner's property from intruders.
Step 2
Apparently, Shar Pei are fully aware of their uniqueness and exclusivity, since even in the breed standard it is noted that they look regal, gloomy and arrogant. The muzzle, thanks to the folds of skin, looks like the face of an old man. The ribcage is voluminous, the powerful front legs are slightly spaced, the hind legs are straight and thick, with well-developed muscles. The straight back without deflections ends with a hard and thin tail, it is set high and wrapped in a loop. If you touch the plush Shar Pei wool, it is quite tough and even slightly prickly.
Step 3
As for the character of this dog, it hardly matches the formidable and gloomy appearance that distinguishes the Shar Pei. In fact, Shar Pei are very friendly, although they are wary of strangers. It is more of a companion dog than a guard. Restrained in communication, Shar Pei always behave with the dignity of a real aristocrat, he is laconic and does not bark, but rather purrs. It is difficult to imagine a situation when this dog will lose his temper or rush at a person, although he behaves quite defiantly with his fellow tribesmen, and he is never embarrassed by the difference in size. He will not seek close contact with the owner, but will always be there.
Step 4
Shar Pei are quite independent in behavior and know how to make independent decisions, but this does not mean that they are out of control. All its excellent qualities, laid down in the formation of the breed, should be developed. He lends itself well to training and is happy to carry out commands, perceiving them not as a compulsion, but as an excuse to demonstrate his understanding with the owner. This dog feels great in a city apartment and a private house, loves to spend time on the street, but also appreciates home comfort.
