Every dog should have a collar. They are very different - for certain sizes, breed groups and types of training. The habituation process does not always and not in all dogs go smoothly. Quite often, the puppy reacts negatively to the owner's actions that are incomprehensible to him. He turns around, tries to pull off the collar, sometimes “gets offended” - he gets into a corner, doesn't play, doesn't respond to commands, or just lies down and whines. However, if you behave correctly, you will quickly cope with the situation.
Instructions
Step 1
Buy a simple leather collar for your puppy, soft and light, 2-2.5 cm wide. It is first worn at the age of 3-4 months. Make sure that it is not too tight or, on the contrary, too loose. Adjust it so that when walking backward, the dog cannot jump out of it. Punch additional holes if necessary. Two of your fingers should pass freely between the collar and the dog's neck.
Step 2
Call the puppy to you, stroke, talk affectionately, give a treat. Show him the collar, let him sniff him. Put it on your puppy at first while playing. If he is dissatisfied, try to distract him. After about 5 minutes, remove the collar. Praise the baby, pet him, give him something tasty. Repeat this process several times throughout the day. Gradually increase the time your puppy stays in the collar. Remember to constantly encourage him. Do not coerce or tolerate rough, abrupt movements. Try to associate the collar with pleasant moments - a game, a treat. Gradually, the baby will stop paying attention to him.
Step 3
After the puppy is used to the collar enough, leave it on it and do not take it off again. But if he is still nervous, try changing tactics. Put on the collar and leash before feeding. Place the bowl of food in the far corner so that the puppy can see it. Keep the leash slightly taut when he goes to eat. And when it starts to eat, put it on the floor. Do this for a few days. The puppy will bind the collar and leash with a pleasant moment - feeding.
Step 4
Very often, after the dog began to be taken out into the street, the problem is solved by itself. The kid quickly realizes that the collar and leash is a walk. This means one more pleasant moment.
Step 5
Adjust the collar size as your puppy grows. At 6-8 months, replace it with your regular standard one.
