If you preferred a Yorkie to all decorative dog breeds and a cute woolen creature has already appeared in your house, or you are just planning to become a happy owner of a mini-terrier, here is what you definitely need to know about caring for your pet.
Contrary to popular belief about the capriciousness of these dogs and the difficulty of caring for them, the Yorkie is not so demanding in keeping.
The most important thing is health. To maintain the health of a Yorkie, firstly, vaccinations are needed in a timely manner and according to age, usually starting from 2, 5-3 months. And, secondly, the use of anthelmintics. Even if the dog never goes out into the street, its owners or guests of the owners walk along the street, who can bring something that will undermine the health of the dog into the house on their shoes. Therefore, anthelmintics should not be neglected in any case!
As for the daily care, everything is like people here. Every day you need to wash: wipe the eyes with a cotton pad moistened with water, and at the same time smooth the fur around the eyes so that it does not interfere. Combing is also desirable every day. It only takes a couple of minutes, but the coat does not fel off, which means there will be no irritation on the skin. In pet stores, even special combs are sold with movable teeth for long-haired dogs, which are convenient for unraveling the fur.
You need to get a haircut at least twice a year. There is such a thing as a hygienic haircut. It is necessary for everyone, even those pets who are not going to exhibitions. A hygienic haircut can also be done at home: trim the legs so that the pads, the tips of the ears by 1/3, claws, fur around the eyes and the place under the tail are visible.
Mixed food is contraindicated for Yorkies, so either dry food, or you cook it separately. In this case, you need to remember about vitamins by age and weight.
It is also important to remember that, despite its size, the Yorkie is still a terrier and cannot escape from the instincts laid down by nature. Therefore, most dogs of this breed are constantly looking for something, licking, tasting and the worst thing - swallowing. It is better to try to immediately wean him off this puppy, for example, like this: start a "punishment newspaper", and when the puppy picks up an object from the floor - a click on the nose (symbolic, not strong!). If the dog was able to resist and abstained, get the treat from the owner's hands, from the hands, not from the floor, otherwise he will not understand what can be taken and what not. Such training is best done at home, so that by the time of the first walk the dog realizes that nothing can be taken from the ground without permission.
In general, Yorkshire terriers are quick-witted and easily accustomed to the diaper or the street. If you have chosen a diaper as a means of organizing a toilet, then the street remains only for walking.
In order for the puppy not to gnaw what should not be gnawed, he should have toys, and from 4 months old bones from bovine veins of the appropriate size.
Do not forget that the Yorkie does not have an undercoat, so in winter the dog is freezing and needs to be insulated. It is not necessary to buy expensive outfits, the main thing is to keep it warm. Therefore, a blanket from an old scarf will do just fine.
And, of course, the most important thing is the love and attention of the owner. Play with your pet often and the dog will be happy!
