We are obliged to take care of our smaller brothers. Without our care, they will not be able to survive, no matter how trite it sounds. This is especially true of purebred dogs, which many have in their homes. Many breeds of domestic dogs have been bred selectively through multiple crosses. And such dogs are not always distinguished by excellent health. Dog owners should take this into account and be able to provide their pets with first aid if necessary.
It is necessary
syringes, cotton wool, disinfectant solution, necessary medicines, bandage, scissors
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, pet owners should be able to recognize the poor health of the pet and be able to give him medicine on time. Sometimes, with especially severe illnesses, it is necessary to give the dog a dropper. Of course, the veterinarian should give the IV drip the first time. But if your dog needs multiple IVs, you'll have to do it yourself.
Step 2
At the veterinary clinic, the dog will have an intravenous catheter and a bandage on the paw. Carefully write down the doctor's instructions and prescribed medications, as well as the order and speed of their administration. At home, at a certain time, you must correctly place the IV for your dog. Prepare everything you need for the procedure.
Step 3
Set up a treatment site for your dog. She should be comfortable and warm. Strengthen the dropper solution bottle as high as possible. Hang it upside down. Wash your hands with soap and water. Lay the dog down on the bed, talk to him affectionately, unbind the paw from the catheter.
Step 4
Disinfect the catheter, suck out a possible blood clot - a thrombus from the catheter cannula with a syringe.
After wiping the rubber cap of the solution bottle, insert the needle into it from the dropper system until it stops. Stick an air needle next to it, remove the cap from it.
Step 5
Squeeze and unclench the dropper until it is about one third full. Lift the clamping wheel up to the stop so that the liquid enters the system. Make sure that there is no air in the system.
Step 6
Use the wheel to close the solution flow and connect the IV to the catheter on the dog's paw. Move the wheel and adjust the dropper speed (1-2 drops per second). Inject the necessary medicines into the rubber cap of the solution using the prepared syringes.
Step 7
Usually the dog falls asleep under the dropper. Do not leave her unattended. The dog may jerk and disconnect the IV. At the end of the procedure, squeeze the dropper with the wheel, disconnect it from the catheter. Insert heparin into the catheter and close with a sterile cap. Wrap the dog's paw tightly.
