Step 1
In the summer, you can wash your turtle as it gets dirty. Twice a week with plain water, no more than once a week with soap. It is advisable to use water settled or filtered. The water temperature should be at least +36 degrees C, but not more than 37 degrees C. A soft foam sponge is suitable for washing the turtle. It is strictly forbidden to wash turtles with caustic liquids, the use of abrasive products, wire brushes is also excluded. It is best to use regular baby soap. Perfumed soaps can irritate your turtle's skin. You can also use a liquid hypoallergenic soap. It is better to refrain from using shower gel altogether. Shower gels leave a film on the surface of the skin, which can cause discomfort in the turtle.
Step 2
The most convenient way to wash your turtle is in a special container. A small plastic bowl is perfect as such a container. There should not be a lot of water, the legs of the turtle must reach the bottom of the container.
Step 3
If the turtle is not very dirty, then you can do without soap. Wet a soft foam sponge, dampen the turtle with water, and gently wipe it down with the sponge. If the turtle is thoroughly dirty, rub the wet sponge with baby soap, wet the turtle, and gently rinse off the dirt with the sponge. Then rinse the turtle with clean water.
Step 4
Do not turn the turtle over sharply, do not allow soap and water to get on the head area, eyes and nostrils. The entire washing procedure, even with heavy dirt, should not exceed five minutes.
Step 5
After washing, you need to wipe the turtle dry. To do this, you can use a terry towel, disposable paper towels, or napkins. Then rub the tortoise shell with a little olive oil, which helps to strengthen the shell structure. Soak a cotton pad with oil and wipe the shell. Even in the warm season, do not take your turtle outside after swimming.
