Cats are distinguished by cleanliness and constantly take care of their own fur coat. But this does not mean that they do not need help from the owner. So that the cat does not swallow excess hair, and its skin looks perfect, the pet will have to be combed out. Both long-haired and short-haired cats need this procedure, although the latter are combed much less often.
It is necessary
- - combs and brushes;
- - terry napkins;
- - scissors;
- - a large towel.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare everything you need in advance. Long-haired cats need metal combs with a comfortable handle and sparse, rounded teeth. Shorthaired combs come in handy. Do not use plastic combs, they will electrify the coat. You will also need natural bristle brushes and soft terry or suede napkins.
Step 2
Persian, Angora and other long-haired cats are combed out daily or every other day. Their thin, delicate coat quickly gets tangled, forming ugly tangles. Shorthaired cats can be scratched every one to two weeks. During the molting period, the number of procedures can be increased. Place a large towel on the floor to keep the fur from flying around the room. It is convenient to brush the cat on the balcony, open veranda or in the bathroom.
Step 3
Before combing your cat, make sure its nails are trimmed. It is best to take care of your pet's coat after eating when the pet is in a good mood. Start at the head and work your way towards the tail. Usually cats can easily tolerate touching the head, chest and back, but when combing the belly and tail, they can get nervous. Work the coat as it grows, making sure that the comb does not scratch the skin of the animal.
Step 4
Use your fingers to brush through the coat. If you find a mat, try combing it out with a comb. It is better to cut off especially dense areas with scissors. Carefully work the collar, pants and skirt around the tail. Pay attention to the areas behind the ears and on the inside of the paws where the fur often falls off.
Step 5
Examine the skin of the animal carefully, especially if it has free access to the street. If you find fleas, treat the fur with a special powder or wash the cat with flea shampoo. If you notice a tick, gently remove it with tweezers.
Step 6
Brush short-haired cats with a thick comb. It is better to moisten the coat before the procedure. You can remove hairs that fall out during molting with a rubber brush, a damp cloth or wet hands. Forcefully "iron" the cat, constantly removing the removed hair from the hands or napkin. Usually pets take this procedure with pleasure.
Step 7
In the summer, long-haired cats can be trimmed. Very popular haircuts "under the lion" with a collar around the neck and a tassel on the tail. This hairstyle will save you from daily combing, it will be enough to wipe the animal with a damp cloth or suede cloth.
