Step 1
Ferrets should be kept in large cages or without them, in a room or on a loggia. You cannot keep a ferret in a small cage. If a ferret lives in a cage, he must spend at least two hours a day outside of it. The animal needs this time for play and movement. In the room where the ferret is released, you need to close up the narrow gaps, and tighten the windows with mesh so that the animal does not fall out. It is advisable to remove all small items from the room. Ferrets are like small children, very curious, interested in everything, trying to crawl everywhere, like to steal small things. This must be taken into account when choosing a place to keep the animal.
Step 2
If the ferret is kept in a cage, it must be designed in such a way as to compensate for the animal's lack of play and movement: put cardboard boxes, stairs, pipes, labyrinths. It is also necessary to prepare a sleeping place, because ferrets sleep most of their lives. To do this, take a small box. If the ferret does not have a cage, it is not necessary to create a sleeping place for it - the ferret will find a corner for itself, usually behind an armchair or sofa, under the closet. Track the animal and equip its place with soft materials.
Step 3
You need to feed and water your pet daily. There are three types of food for ferrets: natural foods, prepared foods, or according to a natural diet. The latter implies maximum compliance with the needs of ferrets who love to feast on rodents, chickens, cockroaches. If such food does not suit you, buy special professional food. It is more difficult to compose a diet from natural products: feed ferrets with chicken, lamb, offal, cereals - rice, buckwheat, oatmeal. Give them fish oil, eggs, cottage cheese, vegetable oil.
Step 4
Use scissors to trim your ferret's nails periodically. You also need to regularly bathe the animal. If you want to walk your ferrets, buy a special harness. The toilet needs to be cleaned every day by changing the bedding. Ferrets are trained to litter in childhood, like cats.
Step 5
Get your ferret vaccinated against rabies and distemper annually using the same vaccines as for dogs. Monitor the condition of the animal - its fur, activity, behavior. In case of any deviations, contact your veterinarian.
