You succumbed to temptation, and a kitten appeared in your house, where a cat has lived for a long time. Or perhaps the baby was purchased specifically for breeding purposes. In any case, peace and quiet in your home depends on you and on the character of an adult cat. The calmer the first meeting is, the faster your pets will become friends.
Instructions
Step 1
Do not force an adult cat to communicate with a kitten forcibly. On the first day, the best thing is not to introduce the animals, but to give the kitten time to get used to the new environment. In a day or two, when he gets used to it, and an adult cat gets used to his smell, you can start the first acquaintance.
Step 2
The first acquaintance must necessarily take place in your presence. If you are concerned about the cat's aggression, first let them sniff through the grate. Place the kitten in the carrier and show it to the cat. The hissing of an adult animal shouldn't scare you. If the cat does not rush headlong into the carrier with flattened ears and bared fangs, everything is in order.
Step 3
You can try to arrange the second meeting without barriers. Open the door to the kitten's room. Let the cat come in and sniff his bowls, tray, bed. Do not chase an adult cat out of his chosen place if he suddenly took up a litter or a kitten's house.
Step 4
When the cat notices the kitten, carefully monitor its reaction. Adult cats, as a rule, do not see a competitor for the territory in a very small fellow. Even if the cat is not neutered, it will most likely not attack first. If the old-timer is still preparing to attack, shout sternly at him.
Step 5
Even if the second meeting went well, try not to leave the pets unattended in the same room, and lock the kitten separately before leaving. If the elder continues to show aggression, wash the cat and kitten with the same shampoo. This will repel someone else's smell and make the cat distract from the competitor for a while. Don't do this if your adult pet is touchy and vindictive. An extreme measure can be castration of a cat (only if it is not intended for breeding).
