Both professional photographers and amateur photographers - everyone knows that the most difficult subjects for shooting are small children and animals, while the plots and shots with the participation of these characters can be vivid, original and interesting. Among pets, cats are very popular with photographers, but photographing a cat in such a way that it turns out to be beautiful and artistic is not easy. Therefore, if you decide to do a photo shoot for your pet, get ready for the shooting process.
Instructions
Step 1
It is best to shoot animals with a digital SLR camera - it has sufficient functionality and sensitivity for high-quality shooting. Plus, a DSLR is faster than a conventional digital camera, and you can take multiple time-lapse shots of a moving cat to sort through the footage and choose the best options.
Step 2
If there is no daylight in the room where you are photographing the animal, be sure to use an external flash on the camera. Depending on what kind of photos you want to get in the end, choose a shooting technique. It can be different when you need to photograph a purebred animal for a breed club, or when you want fun photos for a family album.
Step 3
For shooting, get a telephoto lens - it gives minimal perspective distortion in the photograph and is well suited for the small size of a domestic cat. When photographing a cat, open the diaphragm as much as possible to focus on the cat itself and at the same time defocus the background.
Step 4
Since cats are reluctant to pose for the photographer, they can run away at the wrong time, so also make sure you have toys and treats for the animal. You can call a helper who will call the cat and offer her toys, but you should not overexcite the cat by playing with it - it is best to take pictures when it is calm, in familiar conditions and is not stressed.
Step 5
Photograph the cat at eye level, leaning low to its level. This will create a realistic and proportional image. Also, make sure that the animal is compositionally in the center of the frame, and the tail is not clipped.
Step 6
The background color behind the cat should contrast with the shade of its fur to make it stand out. Choose a solid color background that is not too bright.
Step 7
Be patient - perhaps shooting a moving animal will take a lot of your energy and time.
