Pets exotic animals have long ceased to be a rarity. Many species of wild animals are domesticated and get along well with humans. After the release of the cartoon "The Lion King", the popularity of meerkats increased dramatically. Although, if you look at it, meerkats are far from being "mimic".
Of course, only domesticated animals need to be brought up at home. Wild meerkats are afraid of humans and are quite aggressive. Do not forget that meerkats are predators by nature. So you need to buy an animal from breeders. There is an opportunity to observe adults, and meerkat puppies are already accustomed to humans and hands.
It is necessary to prepare for the appearance of a meerkat in the house. Check your home for animal safety. There should be no open wires on the floor, the garbage bucket should have a tight-fitting lid or even stand behind a closed door. All windows must be equipped with a mosquito net with a lock and additional protection. Meerkats are excellent rodents and lovers of digging in the sand. Expect skirting boards and wallpaper to be damaged. Check flowers and potted plants for toxicity. And try to limit the access of animals to them as much as possible by placing them higher. Meerkats are not great experts at climbing high surfaces. It is enough for them to put a special cat stand. It is better to hide all household chemicals and medicines under lock and key.
Despite the fact that meerkats are freedom-loving animals, they still have to put a cage. Just choose a large model with two tiers, even if you only have one animal to live. Be sure to equip the cage with a warm bed, litter box and litter box. In winter, when there is little sun, meerkats need a special lamp for additional heating. For sunbathing, equip a couch on the windowsill. In general, the window for meerkats is literally "TV". They can watch life behind glass for hours.
Particular attention should be paid to the nutrition of the meerkats. Small animals eat up to 4-6 times a day. By the first year of life, meerkats switch to two meals a day. The animals have a well-developed sense of proportion and they never overeat. But due to natural curiosity, they may try unfamiliar products that can be deadly for them. It is strictly forbidden to feed meerkats with fish and seafood, milk, sour cream, nuts, mushrooms, fatty meats and sweets. Food must be unsalted. Kids eat well boiled chicken and beef, vegetables and fruits: carrots, pumpkin, cucumber, zucchini, cabbage, banana, apple, persimmon. All vegetables and fruits must be finely chopped and mixed with the meat. Meerkats also like raw quail eggs, it is better to give chicken eggs in boiled form, half an egg once a week. Many sirukats have switched to wet cat food.
But the main delicacy of meerkats is zoophobas - live Madagascar cockroaches, crickets and larvae. Typically, this exotic can be found in a regular pet store.
