Sea turtles are very empathetic creatures that can become very attached to their owners. They need not only the love of the owner, but also care and special attention. Improper care can lead to illness or even early death of the turtle.
Instructions
Step 1
Buy a spacious aquarium for your sea turtle and arrange it properly. In the aquarium, there must be a piece of land on which the turtle can easily climb. If there is no such area, the animal will simply drown. In addition, there should always be clean water in the aquarium. You can use special filters to clean it, but you still have to change the water regularly.
Step 2
Provide proper lighting in the aquarium. You will need a UV lamp to help strengthen the turtle's shell, and an incandescent lamp to keep your aquarium at the right temperature. Lamps should be placed over land, and the distance from them to the surface of the turtle's shell should be at least 20 cm and no more than 30 cm.
Step 3
Make sure that the air near the island warms up to 25-30 degrees C. In this case, there should also be cool dark areas in the aquarium, into which the turtle can swim. Lamps should burn for 10-12 hours a day, which corresponds to daylight hours.
Step 4
Never keep several turtles of different sizes in the same tank. In addition, if you notice that one of the turtles is behaving aggressively and attacking others, it should be immediately moved to another aquarium.
Step 5
Feed your turtle both plant and animal foods. A monotonous diet can lead to disease and death of the turtle, so try to diversify the diet of your animal as much as possible. Sea turtles can be fed with cottage cheese, boiled eggs, mealworms, lean fish, meat, fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables.
Step 6
Give your turtle special vitamins and minerals regularly. Crushed eggshells, bone meal, trivit, tetravit and any vitamin complexes for turtles are suitable.
