The coat of some dog breeds must be constantly looked after and periodically cut. However, a visit to a specialized salon can be an expensive undertaking, so if you wish, you can trim your dog at home.
Instructions
Step 1
Yorkshire terriers, cocker spaniels and poodles most often need a haircut. This procedure is a vital necessity for them, especially for Yorkies, as fast-growing hair begins to fall off, clump together, making it difficult for the dog not only to walk, but also to look. Such dogs are trimmed at least once every 2-3 months. A hygienic haircut is usually done on the paw pads, groin, armpits and abdomen. In breeds such as Yorkies and West Highland White Terriers, the tips of the ears should also be treated. In poodles, the areas of the neck, muzzle, base of the legs and tail are clipped.
Step 2
Prepare the coat for clipping. You will need tools such as a comb and a slicker. Also get a special pet machine. Prepare scissors with rounded ends. Comb the coat thoroughly with a slicker, making movements parallel to the skin so as not to injure the dog. Start in the area behind the ears, under the front legs, and in the groin. Also, brush over the entire coat, smoothing out tangles that have not yet been combed. After the coat has been freely combed along its entire length, bathe the dog. This will help you get an even, clean cut.
Step 3
Start trimming by combing the decorating coat and trimming the split ends with scissors. Clip the hair off your ears. Leave the coat about 5 mm long. Next, cut the triangle short and scissor well the area under the tail. Also leave no more than 5 mm of hair between the pads.
Step 4
Use a clipper to trim the fur on your belly. Next, go over the neck and body. The residual length of wool in these places should not exceed 15-20 mm. Leave the same length at the throat and between the front legs. The strip between the back and front legs can be made shorter.
Step 5
Trim the tail hair according to your preference. Cut the hind legs to the hock joint to 20 mm, leaving the elegant pants on the bottom. The front legs are cut in the same way: short - to the elbow and long - to the foot.
Step 6
Give the hair a round shape on the head. Use scissors to trim the hair above your eyes. Shorten the top of the ears on the outside and inside so that the dog's head is in the shape of a ball. Gently remove hair from the jaw and chin. Brush the dog thoroughly and brush off any remaining trimmed hair. Bathe your dog again so that the haircut is fairly even.
