Examine the plumage of the pigeon - it should be uniform, neat and consistent with the exterior of the breed. Often birds in dovecotes suffer from chewing lice and feather eaters, so be sure to carefully examine the wings of pigeons for light. If gaps or small holes are visible, the bird is infected and should not be bought. Also look at the belly, anus and the area under the beak - in these places the feathers are quite loose and traces of lice and nits are clearly visible.
