Step 1
Pay attention to the behavior of the pigeon. If he: - unnaturally turns his head; - dizzy in one place; - cannot get his beak on the stern in any way; - stands or walks, staggering, or even falls on his side; - crashes into obstacles during the flight, then this means that, perhaps he is sick with Newcastle disease, in which the brain and central nervous system are damaged. However, in order to be sure of this, collect some pigeon feces and take it to the veterinary clinic for analysis (PCR). These symptoms can be characteristic of other diseases as well. For example, for psittacosis or salmonellosis.
Step 2
Pigeons get sick with twirling mainly in the fall and winter, since it is at this time of the year that they are especially vulnerable to infections due to the weakening of the body. The mortality rate from this disease is very high - up to 70-80%, but with timely and proper treatment, the bird can be saved. Contact your veterinarian for recommendations and strictly follow the course of appointments.
Step 3
Immunostimulants (fosprenil, immunofan) give a sick pigeon 0.1-0.3 ml once a day for 20 days. These drugs can be injected in the breast, or given to a pigeon to drink. At the same time, two or more immunostimulants should not be given, it is better to increase the period of taking one of them.
Step 4
Buy piracetam from a regular pharmacy and give a pigeon ¼ capsule once a day. This medication has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system and improves cerebral circulation. Since this drug has almost no side effects, it can be given for a long time. Open a piracetam capsule, pour its contents onto a clean sheet of paper, dilute ¼ part in 1 ml of water and let the pigeon drink this solution using a syringe. If the pigeon refuses to drink it, roll the dose of the medicine into a piece of bread crumb and feed the bird.
Step 5
Buy special vitamins for pigeons (catosal, vitasol). The course of vitamins usually lasts for 14 days, but in some cases it can be extended until the symptoms of the disease disappear.
Step 6
To prevent the pigeon from having problems with the gastrointestinal tract and liver from so many drugs, add finely crushed carsil or linex to its feed. During the entire course of treatment, help the bird to eat and drink: do not give it solid food, drink with a syringe or pipette.
