Any move is stressful for a hamster. Therefore, the fewer changes in its position your pet will notice, the less he will worry and the better it is for him. After arriving at the place, do not rush to get the animal out of its temporary shelter. Give your hamster some rest after the move. And in general, the first two days in a new place, try not to bother him.
Instructions
Step 1
Hamsters do not tolerate drafts and cold, so a plastic carrier is best for transporting them. Usually there is a hatch and ventilation holes in its cover. Such a portable box can be built independently. Depending on the size of the animal, you can use a box made of thick cardboard, a packing container. However, if you are on the road for more than an hour and a half, the hamster can chew on such a carrier. You can also use a plastic mayonnaise bucket. The transport device must be ventilated.
Step 2
During the winter trip, do not keep the box in which the hamster is located in close proximity to the heaters. In summer, make sure it is not exposed to direct sunlight and the ventilation opening is not obstructed by anything. Overheating is dangerous for the animal. Your hamster can get heatstroke. Therefore, it is better to refrain from moving on the hottest days. Place some sawdust or hay in the carrier so your pet can burrow in and sleep peacefully on the road. You can use white paper napkins. All this will help protect the animal from possible stress.
Step 3
If you still have to transport your pet in hot weather, use a cage with metal rods, the size of which is no more than 15x15x10 cm. Make sure that it does not have sharp corners and surfaces. Do not put anything in the cage or carrier that could injure the animal when shaken. Do not use sippy cups and saucers. The water will spill and everything in your hamster's temporary shelter will be wet. Better put him a piece of juicy food - carrots, cabbage leaves. Do not play with your hamster and generally try not to disturb him during the trip. If possible, hold the cage or carrier in your hands to avoid jolting and jolting while the vehicle is moving.
