Step 1
Suppose you are going to travel with a parrot by train or car. It is not recommended to transport birds in public transport. The crush and jolts can scare the bird, and this is fraught with the fact that he will begin to beat against the walls of the carrier, causing himself injuries.
Step 2
To transport poultry, select a cardboard box with a lid, in which you need to make several holes for ventilation. A 20x30 cm box is suitable for a budgerigar. Make sure that the box is at least 15-20 centimeters high. For larger breeds of parrots, the box should naturally be larger. You can also use a kitten carrier. Put a cloth on the bottom of the box so that the bird's paws do not slip.
Step 3
It is better to place the parrot in a box some time before going out, so that he has the opportunity to calm down. Do not do everything at the last moment - this will create stress for both you and the bird. Talk affectionately with your pet by placing it in the box. He should feel that you are near. You can put a slice of his favorite treat, such as an apple, in his box.
Step 4
Secure the box lid with tape, but so that you can easily and quickly open it if necessary. Before leaving, wrap the box with something warm: a blanket, blanket, or sweater, depending on the temperature outside. Do not put the carrier in a bag: the rustling will make the parrot worry. Better to carry the box in your hands, or use a rag bag.
Step 5
When arranging the carrier in the car, make sure that it is well fixed. The fall of the box as a result of sudden braking will not add peace of mind to your pet. It is very good if you are near the carrier, being able to hold it. Warn the driver not to brake too hard and to be careful when cornering.
Step 6
While you are on the road, remove the insulation from the carrier, in whole or in part, depending on the temperature in the car. Make sure there is no draft from the air conditioner.
Step 7
Upon arrival at your destination, do not open the box immediately, let the bird stand for a few minutes and calm down. Open the lid carefully and slowly, making sure that the parrot, if frightened, does not burst out. Make sure the room is warm. Move the bird gently into the cage, praise him, give him a treat.
