It is sometimes difficult to find out the sex of a hamster - little fluffy animals are so similar to each other that even experienced specialists sometimes "miss".
Instructions
Step 1
In order to determine the sex of the hamster, you must carefully take the animal in your hand, holding the head and upper body with your thumb. Let your lower body hang loosely from your palm (you can gently hold it with the fingers of your other hand). You can also take the animal "by the scruff" so that the hind legs are straightened. But for hamsters, this method is rather unpleasant, so they can twitch and wriggle, thereby making it difficult to determine the sex.
Step 2
Sex differences in hamsters are clearly visible if you look at the distance between the anal and genital openings. In females, it is much smaller, the anus and the vagina are located almost closely. In addition, in females, the skin in this zone is not covered with hair, and two rows of papillae can be seen on the belly.
Step 3
In males, the fur-covered distance between the anus and the urogenital opening can be up to one and a half centimeters. In males, already at the age of one month, you can see the testes located at the base of the tail (with the exception of dwarf hamsters, in which the testes are practically invisible).
Step 4
In addition, you can also find out the sex of a hamster by its behavior: as a rule, males behave much more calmly than females (although this method is very inaccurate: each animal has its own character). And Dzungarian hamsters can be distinguished "by eye": both boys and girls are very fluffy, the hair of the males is much longer.
