Determining the age of a dog by the teeth is considered more accurate than by other characteristics characteristic of its appearance. This method is used in the case when the animal has no owner, there is no documentation about the origin of the dog.
Instructions
Step 1
Determine how many months the puppy is in front of you, by the number and change of its milk teeth. You can tell the age of an older dog by looking at the condition of its permanent teeth.
Step 2
The puppy has thirty-two milk teeth. Of these, twelve incisors, four canines and sixteen molars. An adult dog has only forty-two teeth (at the top twenty, at the bottom twenty-two).
Step 3
Puppies will be born toothless. The first sharp teeth erupt on the surface of the gums in a month. At the age of five months, they begin to change to permanent ones. In this case, the incisors are the first to disappear, and the milk canines are the last to fall out. In the tenth month from birth, the dog will grow all the teeth, which it will now have permanently.
Step 4
The dog is young, healthy and has white teeth. By the end of the second year of a dog's life, the front lower incisors are erased, they are also called hooks, teeth. In the third year, the middle teeth are erased. At the same time, the hooks at the top begin to wear off.
Step 5
At four to five years (the more exact period depends on nutrition, animal care), the extreme incisors in the lower jaw of the dog are erased, and the wear of the upper teeth in the middle is also visible. By the age of five, the teeth of dogs of all breeds begin to turn yellow. At the base of the teeth, especially on the canines, a dark plaque appears, tartar is deposited.
Step 6
In the fifth year, all incisors in dogs are worn out, and at six and a half years, the canines begin to dull. At six to seven years of age, the incisors of a dog wear out and take a concave shape, the canines become slightly dull.
Step 7
In an elderly dog aged ten years or more, all the crowns of the teeth are erased by this time. Often, at the age of twelve, the dog's teeth swing under mechanical pressure on them, take the wrong position.
