Crows often fall out of their nests. The reason for this may be excessive curiosity or simply too strong wind and negligence of the baby. Once on the ground, they become completely defenseless and are in danger of attack from both large and small predators. If it is not possible to return the ravens to their native nest, or for some reason an adult bird has left its clutch, it is worth helping the chicks by feeding them on their own.
Allowed Products
Since the body of the chicks has not yet matured, products must be selected that are easy to digest. If it is not possible to prepare a balanced feed on your own, veterinarians recommend using baby food, for example, mashed potatoes or cereals. The main condition is the absence of salt and sugar.
Since the raven is an omnivorous bird, its chicks, in addition to vegetables, must also be given meat. It can be in the form of a pate (the same baby food) or minced meat. Chicken offal can be served in small pieces.
We must not forget about cereals (cereals), since they contain valuable trace elements and vitamins. This product can be pre-cooked or steamed with hot water. It is better to give flakes to very young chicks. Recommended crops include oats, wheat, barley, rye.
In addition, low-fat cottage cheese and a boiled egg are given to crow chicks as an additive to feed. And, of course, do not forget that the little funnel must regularly receive clean fresh water.
How to feed a raven
Until the chick is accustomed to humans, he will be very reluctant to take food. Therefore, you will have to try to somehow get out of the situation. For example, to put food directly into the beak - in this way the swallowing reflex is triggered. After some time, the little crow himself will gladly take food.
If the chick stubbornly refuses to accept food from the hands, and at the same time it is weakened, in order to avoid injuries to the beak, food is laid with a syringe with a rubber tip. Even if the bird does not sit still, it will not be damaged.
It is worth remembering that the food should be warm, approximately the temperature of the human body, that is, 36-37 ° C. In addition, it should not be kept in the refrigerator for a long time. It is best to prepare a new mixture each time.
Prohibited foods
Trying to feed a chick, do not forget that not all products that humans eat are good for birds and animals. To grow a healthy individual, you need to avoid giving the chick fried, smoked, dried. They are also contraindicated in salty and sweet foods, including confectionery. Sausages and canned food, products containing preservatives - all this should in no case be in the diet of poultry.
Caring for a chick is not just a chore, but also a big responsibility. In order not to harm him, it is better to consult a veterinarian.
