A cozy and soft do-it-yourself cat bed will not only provide the four-legged pet with comfortable sleeping conditions, but also allow its owner to avoid the need to regularly clean the sofas and armchairs from cat hair.
A cat, even a domestic one, accustomed to maximum comfort is a territorial animal. For this reason, having your own sleeping area in the form of a warm bed is so important to meet one of the natural needs of your pet.
Round bed with bumpers
If the cat prefers to sleep curled up in a ball, the most suitable shape for its bed is round with small sides. When choosing a fabric for making a bed, preference should be given to a soft material that has a pile: velvet, fleece, bike or furniture fabrics. Fleecy fabrics not only warm a thermophilic animal well, but also keep its smell for a long time.
To sew the bench, you will need two circles, the diameter of which is calculated taking into account the size of the cat and the height of the future sides: the higher the sides are needed, the larger the diameter should be. Two parts are cut out of the fabric, on which an inner circle is drawn with tailor's chalk, which forms the bottom of the lounger. After that, the entire workpiece is divided into 8 equal sectors that form the side of the product.
2-3 layers of padding polyester are laid between the parts and the workpiece is stitched on a sewing machine, first along the inner circle, and then along the lines of the sectors to the very end. The unsewn upper edges of the sectors are additionally filled with padding polyester scraps or other filler to give the sides stability. A rope or an elastic band is passed through the resulting "pockets", the open seams are carefully sewn up, leaving a small hole in one of the sectors. Pulling the rubber band, the finished bed is given the desired shape, the rubber band is tied and its ends are removed into the "pocket", after which the hole is sewn up.
Semi-open bed with removable cushion
For those cats who like to sleep stretched out and cannot stand confined spaces, a rectangular bed with an open "entrance" is suitable. A rectangle with rounded edges is drawn on a sheet of cardboard, the dimensions of which correspond to the length of the animal's body. On one side of the template it is necessary to provide a small opening for "entry". The second important detail of the pattern is the side of the bed. Its length should be equal to the length of the main part, the height can be arbitrary.
Cardboard patterns are applied to a thick sheet of foam rubber and a soft frame is cut out of it for the future pillow, the bottom and sides of the bed. Having picked up the most suitable fabric, a trim for the bottom is cut out of it, adding about 3 cm to the contour of the pattern for seam allowances. After that, according to the same scheme, the trim details for the pillow and sides are cut.
The details of the pillow are folded with the front sides inward and sewn on a typewriter along the contour, leaving one side unstitched. A foam piece is inserted into the pillow and an open hole is sewn up with secret stitches.
In the same way, the sides of the bed are sheathed with fabric and connected to the bottom, trying to lay the connecting seams as accurately as possible. To give the couch the most aesthetic appearance, these seams can be hidden behind decorative trimming tape or tape. A pillow is put into the finished bed.
