For them, it is simply necessary to create special conditions that are as close to natural as possible. For example, for aeration and mixing of water, a compressor must be used, which is an integral part of any aquarium. You can do it yourself, which saves a significant amount of money.

Step 1
An aquarium compressor consists of three main parts: a pump, a transmission mechanism and an electric motor, the power of which must not be less than 50 W in order for the pump to function properly. To make a pump, glue the tabs of the valves located on the inside of the body.
Step 2
Attach a plate to the sides of the flywheel using two screws having an axle to create the engine. The axle will serve as a motion transmission unit that is put on the motor shaft. The movement of the axle is carried out by means of a plate with two slots, which also affects the magnitude of the eccentric transmission.
Step 3
Using a lathe from duralumin, make bushings, a flywheel and all the components of the pump. Make cup washers from duralumin washers. To do this, you can use an anvil and a hammer. The diaphragm can be made from a small sheet of rubber, the thickness of which should not exceed 1 mm.
Step 4
To create a silent compressor, you will additionally need a box on acoustic interconnections, the use of which eliminates the possibility of vibration and sound transmission from the compressor elements to the floor or table on which the aquarium stands.
Step 5
To make a box using boards, make a lid and a box, and then fasten them with screws. Cover the bottom of the box with foam rubber. Glue the lid with a cloth so that it closes as tightly as possible. The legs of the box can be made of foamy polyurethane. To create ventilation, close the hose and the opening for the power supply to the compressor, but not tightly.
