A few years ago, a dog in clothes caused bewilderment, and even ridicule of passers-by. And today, many dogs have a very extensive wardrobe. If you are also planning to dress up your pet, you can purchase everything you need in the store. But it's much more fun to create dog outfits yourself. You can start with the simplest thing - for example, with a header.
It is necessary
- - tape measure;
- - soft tissue flaps;
- - scissors;
- - needles and threads;
- - ribbons for strings;
- - a linen elastic band.
Instructions
Step 1
Assess your pet's needs. Pugs, bulldogs and other short-haired dogs may need a sun cap. Spaniels and Basset Hounds with long, drooping ears need a headgear to protect their ears from dirt and debris. And always chilly toy terriers and chihuahuas will need a warm hat for the winter.
Step 2
Any soft piece of cloth will work for making dog hats. Don't use tough, prickly, crunchy materials - they can irritate your pet.
Step 3
The simplest type of headgear is a trumpet hat. It is suitable for lop-eared dogs. The main purpose is to prevent street litter and dirt from clinging to the fur on the ears. For wet weather, the pipe can be sewn from waterproof materials; for summer walks, you will need a hat made of lightweight mesh fabric. Quite good hats are also obtained from thin knitwear, and especially warm options are sewn from fluffy fleece.
Step 4
Measure your dog. You will need the girth of the neck at the widest part (the width of the future hat) and the distance from the bottom of the neck to the forehead (respectively, its length). Having made an allowance of 3 centimeters in width and 6 centimeters in length, cut a rectangle out of the fabric. Fold it in half and sew. The resulting tube should slide freely over the dog's head. Hem and hem on both sides. Insert elastic into each hem, adjusting it to fit the width of the neck. Turn the product out.
Step 5
For dogs with erect ears, a different hat option will work. It can be made warm, or it can be summer, protecting from the sun. Cut out a rectangle from the selected fabric, the length of which is equal to the circumference of the head (plus the allowance for the seams), and the width is equal to the height of the ears (also taking into account the allowance). The bottom of the hat is a circle, the diameter of which is equal to the girth of the head. If you plan on making a lined hat, increase the seam allowance. Baste the details of the hat by joining the rectangle in width, and then sewing the bottom to its long side. For a better fit on the dog's head, sew on the straps on both sides of the cap.
