Swordsmen are small, peace-loving fish that decorate any aquarium. This type of fish belongs to viviparous, therefore, it is quite easy to determine whether the female swordtails are pregnant.
Instructions
Step 1
Swordtails reach sexual maturity by 6-8 months. If you have purchased juveniles, be sure to ask the seller how many months the fry are, and starting from the age of puberty, keep an observation diary in order to remove the female from the aquarium in time if you want to breed fish. But even if you did not bring the fish for divorce, the female should still be planted before giving birth, since immediately after them she is too weak, and other inhabitants of the aquarium can enjoy her and the fry with pleasure.
Step 2
Fertilization takes place inside the female and takes about 2 days, and the remaining sperm is stored in her body until new eggs mature. Pregnancy lasts 4-6 weeks. Its duration is greatly influenced by the water temperature (should be at least 20-25 ° C), the length of daylight hours and the feeding regime.
Step 3
Determine if the female swordsman is pregnant. it is possible by the dark spot that has appeared at her anal fin. During this period, her abdomen inflates and remains the same, regardless of whether she is hungry or full. Immediately before giving birth, the female begins to look for secluded places in the aquarium, or, conversely, rises to its surface. The abdomen becomes almost square.
Step 4
If you notice that the fish is pregnant, immediately plant it in a pre-prepared aquarium, in which you need to place as much vegetation as possible, since immediately after giving birth, a weakened female will not mind “biting” her kids, and thickets will help them avoid this.
Step 5
Usually, the female swordsman gives birth in the morning. The litter contains up to 200 fry (the ratio of females to males is 3: 1). After giving birth, the female is best planted. The fry should be fed as often as possible, including a large amount of protein in the diet.
