The aquarium in the house adds beauty to the design, and the fish swimming in it soothes. If you decide to put an aquarium at home, but do not want to buy standard models, you can make an aquarium with your own hands in the shape that suits your taste.
It is necessary
- - 4 glass plates
- - special whetstone
- - blades for cutting glass
- - good degreaser
Instructions
Step 1
Currently, there are only two ways to glue aquariums: the walls are glued to the bottom, and the walls are positioned around it. The most popular and reliable is the second method, it is with the help of it that we will make our own aquarium.
To begin with, you need to be sure to sharpen the edges of the glass in the workshop so that you can avoid cuts, and also so that around the bottom of the glass walls are tightly converged with each other. You can process glass at home, but it will take longer. After finishing the processing of the ends of the glass, we carefully wipe it off, and let it dry for 1-2 hours, after which we thoroughly degrease these glasses using alcohol or acetone.
Step 2
Then we take the bottom of the future aquarium and begin to glue the walls around it. To do this, we squeeze out a specially prepared sealant, and spread it with a uniform strip on the end of our glass. If your glass wall is just over 4mm thick, then the best way to apply the sealant is with a 20 cc syringe. This can provide a thinner strip and also protect you from cuts when you want to make your aquarium larger with your own hands.
Step 3
Leave the glue to dry, and try to remove it from the walls of the aquarium if it crawls out a little from one side. When joining the next glass sides of the aquarium, care must be taken not to create bevels or gaps between them. When installing the glasses vertically, you need to firmly press them to the bottom so that the sealant firmly adheres them to the base of the aquarium.
Step 4
After the operations done, we leave our aquarium to dry for a day, after which we fill it with water to check the complete tightness of the structure. Then, if all the quality and strength checks are successful, you need to take a knife and cut off the excess glue from the glass at the seams. In fact, making an aquarium with your own hands is not so difficult. The main thing is to buy the necessary materials and do everything carefully.
