Helminthiasis in cats is a very common disease, no less relevant than other parasitic diseases, namely, infection with fleas or ticks. Worms often appear in cats that eat raw meat, fish, trash cans and other garbage. Animals that spend time outdoors are also highly susceptible to helminth infestation.
Instructions
Step 1
There are a number of somptomas that indicate the presence of helminths in cats. This is a general depletion of the body, a lethargic state of the pet, dull coat, increased appetite or refusal to eat, weight loss, thirst, vomiting and diarrhea. Parasites can be found in the feces or vomit of a cat.
Step 2
In addition, a small rash around the anus may indicate the presence of worms in the animal. Kittens have a swollen stomach, mucous membranes are very pale, indigestion is replaced by bloody diarrhea and constipation. However, only a veterinarian can finally confirm or deny the suspicion of the presence of worms in a cat by taking the animal's blood or feces for analysis.
Step 3
According to all the rules, anthelmintic treatment should be prescribed only by a veterinarian, after tests, establishing the type of parasites, as well as lesions. It is also important to consider the fact that there are drugs that affect only one type of parasite. There are also complex products containing several active active substances against various types of helminths. However, for various reasons, not everyone succeeds in doing everything according to the rules, but the problem needs to be solved. In such cases, you can ward off the cat using any of the following drugs.
Step 4
Sugar cubes can help remove worms from a cat. They are given to the animal as a treat, along with food, or they are dissolved in water and the pet is given a solution through a syringe to water. These funds include the drug "Polivercan".
Step 5
You can also proglist a cat with the help of tablets for worms (these funds are given to the animal in crushed form with water or with food):
- "Pratel";
- "Drontal";
- "Envire";
- "Caniquantel Plus".
Step 6
Help to cope with worms in a cat and suspensions (they are given to the animal orally using a syringe dispenser):
- "Prazicide" sweet suspension for kittens;
- "Prazicide" for adult cats.
You can also use drops on the withers, for example, "Profender".
Step 7
And finally, a few recommendations. Modern anthelmintic drugs are given to cats for prophylaxis once, in the morning, while a pre-starvation diet is not required. When treating helminthiasis, the drug must be given to the animal again after 10 days. Before each vaccination, the cat should be given anthelmintic drugs 10 days before the expected date of vaccination. In addition, such funds should be given 3 weeks before delivery and 3 weeks after them. It is not recommended to give these medications to kittens younger than 3 weeks old.
Step 8
The disease is easier to prevent than to cure. Therefore, to minimize the risk of cat helminths, do the following:
- for prophylaxis, give the animal an antiparasitic agent for worms once every 3 months;
- do not feed the cat with raw meat and fish, drink only with settled / boiled water;
- do not let your pet come into contact with street animals;
- regularly carry out antiparasitic treatment of the scratching post and cat's place;
- keep your cat care items clean;
- regularly clean the apartment / house.
