There is hardly anything that can shock an unprepared person as much as the helminths seen with his own eyes in the excrement of his cat. Do not panic and drive away from yourself an animal that does not understand anything - the pet needs to be urgently treated for parasites. How to do this so that everything goes quickly and profitably?
Instructions
Step 1
Do not think that if your cat is not on the street and the possibility of her contact with stray animals is excluded, then she cannot have worms. Eggs of worms can be brought into the house by the owner of the animal from the street on his shoes or clothes - the cat will rub against his legs, and then, in the process of licking, will swallow them. For infection with some types of tapeworms, just one flea is enough, which will easily jump into the apartment from the entrance. The cat will catch a flea with its teeth on its body, bite it through - that's it, an infection with a cucumber tapeworm has occurred. Feeding the animal with raw meat or fish also leads to the appearance of helminths in the cat.
Veterinarians, as well as human parasitologists, recommend prophylactically giving the animal a broad-spectrum anthelmintic. The most effective drugs can be advised to you in a veterinary clinic, as well as in a pet store. Anthelmintic drugs are given to cats twice a year - in spring and autumn. The dosage of the drug is calculated depending on the weight of the animal.
Step 2
Keep in mind that the time for prophylactic giving of anthelmintic tablets may not come yet, and your cat will already be the carrier of one or another type of helminth. Contrary to popular belief, a person can get infected with worms from a cat in rare enough cases, but you, no doubt, do not want to be in those few percent of people who have been infected. And the presence of worms in its body affects the health of the animal itself in the most detrimental way.
Worms in a cat can be detected as a result of the analysis of its feces in a veterinary clinic. However, in most cases, the owners themselves see the worms or their fragments in the animal's excrement, which may indicate that the infection is serious enough. This stage of infection requires immediate treatment.
Step 3
If you donated animal feces for analysis and you know exactly what types of worms parasitize in the intestines of your four-legged friend, then you can choose the most effective drug in the fight against this particular type of worms. For example, tapeworm medications may not work for roundworms, and vice versa. If you want to carry out prophylaxis or your cat has several types of helminths, use a wide spectrum of drugs.
Keep in mind that drugs for worms are not vitamins, but rather toxic drugs for the animal itself. If a cat infected with worms is sick, emaciated, weakened or pregnant, then first discuss with the veterinarian the scheme of its treatment, so as not to aggravate the situation by giving worms.
