Parrots are one of the most disease-resistant birds. However, they can also catch a cold due to temperature changes in the room, drafts, cold water in the drinking bowl. The owners need to start treatment immediately, because diseases in small birds are rapid.
It is necessary
- - infrared or conventional lamp of 60 watts;
- - chamomile infusion;
- - lemon juice, honey;
- - oils of eucalyptus, menthol;
- - penicillin in vials.
Instructions
Step 1
Transfer the sick parrot to a separate cage to isolate it from healthy individuals. Remove the cage from the window, from a noisy room, protect it from drafts. Temporarily prevent children from interacting with sick birds until a veterinarian is seen. Determine the symptoms of a cold - the parrot is ruffled, sneezes, trembles, his eyes are inflamed, discharge has appeared from the nostrils, mucous membranes are bright red. Take the sick parrot to your veterinarian as soon as possible.
Step 2
Treat with warmth. Place a 60-watt infrared or conventional lamp next to the cage at a distance of 20 to 30 cm from the bird. The temperature must be raised to 30 - 35 ° C. Darken the other part of the cage with a dense cloth so that the parrot has the opportunity to go into the shade in case of overheating. Heat the bird for about an hour, 3-5 times a day, depending on the condition of the feathered pet.
Step 3
Boil the chamomile and pour about 1 teaspoon into the sippy cup. Change the chamomile water every 4 hours. Or add a few drops of lemon and honey to the water to maintain strength.
Step 4
Take a course of inhalation if the budgerigar's cold is accompanied by severe coughing, sneezing, and heavy breathing. Brew 1 tbsp. a spoonful of chamomile in a glass of boiling water. Or dilute 0.5 ml of metol and eucalyptus oils in 70 ml of hot water. Place the bowl with the product next to the cage and cover with a thick blanket. Perform this procedure 1 - 2 times a day for about 15 minutes for 4 - 5 days. During inhalation, monitor the condition of the bird. If the parrot has started wings, shorten the procedure time and slightly open the blanket that covers the cage.
Step 5
Dilute the penicillin bottle to the brim with warm boiled water. Give a cold parrot 2 drops 3 to 4 times a day for a week if you suspect a bird has an infection. Dilute a new vial of medication daily.
Step 6
Feed the budgerigar with fruits and vegetables. Purchase special vitamins for birds and feed them to your pet as directed.
