Owners of animals, for example, rabbits, do not always have the opportunity to take a sick pet to a veterinary hospital, so they need to learn how to inject on their own. The course of treatment should not be interrupted so as not to aggravate the condition of the pet. A drug given with a syringe acts faster than a drug given orally. And these few minutes in some cases can save the life of a rabbit.
It is necessary
- - insulin syringe;
- - medicinal product;
- - rabbit.
Instructions
Step 1
Stock up on all the medications your pet needs: disposable insulin syringes, prescribed vitamins and medications, antibiotics, sedatives and pain relievers. Get a digital scale so you always know the weight of your animal. This will help to correctly calculate the dose of the drug.
Step 2
Draw the required amount of medication into the syringe, release all the air by pointing the needle up. Ask someone to hold the rabbit gently but firmly so that the pet does not jerk when the needle is pricked.
Step 3
Talk to your pet calmly and affectionately, at the same time grab a fold of skin between the shoulder blades or in the area of the withers. Usually this place is less sensitive in animals. Pierce the skin, but do not try to insert the entire needle. Smoothly squeeze out the contents of the syringe without paying attention to the pet's reaction.
Step 4
After the end of the procedure, unpleasant for the rabbit, pet the animal, praise and give your favorite treat. Watch your pet, calm him down if he is nervous. If something bad happens to him, call your vet.
Step 5
You can give an injection intramuscularly, in the back muscles of the thigh. The drug administered in this way is absorbed faster, since muscle tissue contains larger blood vessels than subcutaneous tissue. But this method is quite painful, so hold the rabbit tightly.
Step 6
The skin of animals has a certain disinfecting property, so there is no need to wipe the injection site with alcohol. But you can use iodinol or chlorhexidine if you're worried about getting an infection. Do not use the same syringe twice.
Step 7
If something goes wrong, or the injection is very painful, the rabbit could go into shock and die. Give something soothing and pain relieving with the medicine. Take care of your pets' health so that you don't have to hurt them. Consult your veterinarian about the necessary vaccinations and vitamins, strictly follow the instructions of the specialist.
