A harness is an accessory that every dog owner should have in his arsenal. In pet stores, you can pick up harnesses for every taste and every size. But you can make it yourself.
It is necessary
- - long braid;
- - soft tissue;
- - two metal rings;
- - carbine;
- - buckle;
- - threads;
- - scissors;
- - awl.
Instructions
Step 1
You will need a long braid (it is better to take the one from which the handles of backpacks are sewn), a soft fabric for finishing the inner side of the harness in contact with the animal's body, two metal rings, a carabiner, a buckle, threads, scissors and an awl.
Step 2
First, take your pet's measurements. Measure the circumference of the dog's chest and neck and the distance between the lines of these two circumferences.
Step 3
Take the braid and cut two pieces from it. The length of the first one should be equal to the sum of the girths of the neck and chest plus twenty centimeters for small dogs, thirty for medium dogs, thirty five for large ones (five centimeters for loops and seams, the rest is for the intersection of the braid and a margin for adjustment). The length of the second segment should be the distance between the girth lines plus ten centimeters for loops and seams. Singe the edges of the cut braid with a lighter so that its threads do not unravel.
Step 4
Take a long piece and sew a soft cloth over it on the side that will be attached to the dog's body. If you don't, the harness will rub against your pet. Make a double loop on one side of the section. To do this, fold the edge, pass it through the buckle and one metal ring, and sew it at a distance equal to the width of the braid plus two centimeters. Make a second seam at the fold to secure the buckle. The metal ring should remain in the large loop that is created between the seams.
Step 5
Cut the other end of the tape at an angle and light it with a lighter, and then with an awl or a thick needle make several holes in it at a distance of two centimeters (as on belts).
Step 6
Take the second piece of tape, sew it over with a soft cloth and make a loop on both sides equal to the width of the tape.
Step 7
Now take the long section of the buckle harness and thread it through one of the loops of the second piece. Then pull the pointed end through the loop with the metal ring and thread it back through the other end of the second piece. It remains to insert the belt into the buckle and fasten it. You now have the part of the harness that fits over the dog's body.
Step 8
In order to make a leash, take the remaining tape, measure the length you need plus thirty-five centimeters. On one side, make a loop for an arm that is at least fifteen centimeters long. To do this, bend the end of the tape to the length you need and sew it on. On the opposite side, secure the metal ring by passing it through a small loop and stitching it up. Insert the carabiner into the ring.
