In a healthy animal, the ears should be clean. As a preventive measure, check your pet regularly. If you notice a significant amount of dark brown sulfur, redness, foul odor or rashes, contact your veterinarian.
Instructions
Step 1
A healthy animal sometimes has to clean its ears for aesthetic purposes, for example, if your pet has to show off at an exhibition. To clean your ears, you can use cotton swabs or gauze swabs dipped in olive oil or vegetable oil. Wipe your outer ear gently. Never try to get deep into the ear canal with a stick - you can injure the eardrum.
Step 2
If the ear is very dirty (for example, dust has accumulated in it after a walk), then you can use a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide. Also in veterinary pharmacies special drops and lotions for hygienic treatment of ears are sold. When using them, you need to drip 1-2 drops of the product into the ear, gently fold it in half and massage. Then apply the lotion to a cotton swab or swab and gently rub the animal's outer ear. Another plus of these funds - after application, they leave a protective layer on the ear, which protects the ear canal from dirt and the reproduction of harmful microorganisms.
Step 3
After cleaning, the kitten may feel anxiety for some time - shake its head, rub its ear with its paw. Veterinarians do not recommend overusing hygienic cleaning. It is often enough to just get your kitten's ears wet with a clean, dry towel after bathing.
Step 4
The frequency of ear brushing is different for each cat. Someone needs to clean their ears once a year, while others have to do it every week. If your pet has an obstinate character, it will be easier to clean the ears if you first "swaddle" the cat in a thick towel, leaving only the head outside. After the procedure, do not forget to praise the animal and treat him with a treat.
Step 5
If you suspect an ear disorder, do not try to treat it yourself. Take the cat to the veterinarian - he will determine the diagnosis and prescribe the appropriate treatment for your pet.
